Versus Kids did a Fantabulous job at the Dream Jiu Jitsu tournament.
Their hard work leading up to one of the largest Jiu Jitsu tournaments in Southern California(over 750 competitors from 100 academies), as always, was especially awesome to see. We have mighty little individuals but we shine because we stick together as a team. The team had altogether over 40 matches for the day. Our coaches including myself are mentally and emotionally attached to every single one of them. Its difficult not to be really. We see them in class struggling on a technique until they get it, sweat drenched uniforms from all the hard work and getting to know all their different personalities.
I'm proud of all the Versus Kids. It was great to see all the families cheering on all their teammates. Some of our teenagers work exclusively with the adult program and they were pleased to have their adult teammates there for support. The Versus Fitness cheering department was full of family, friends, teammates cheering on the whole squad.
Seth Earns Gold in Tournament Debut
We were able to bring home multiple Gold, Silver and Bronze medals but more importantly the kids overcame adversity and grew in confidence. There were a few first time competitors and they did exceptional in their debut. We will elaborate more in a future post. A long time student of over 5 years, Seth took Gold in his first tournament. He was able to change the way he focused in class to get ready for this event. He made a transformation that his parents and teammates recognize.
Special thanks to all the coaches, Michael Penafiel, Mike Martinez, Monica, and Hector for all the work you do. It isn't a one man job and we all compliment each other well. I think what we all kind of encompass is the process for learning, always learning, always tackling the infinite spectrum of jiu jitsu through the eyes of white belt. We pass this on to all the students we have the pleasure of working with.
